Marketing Tips: Don’t Rely on Memory Alone

A recent email from my colleague Peter Sandeen, in Finland, jogged my business and marketing memory.
Peter had emailed three pieces of really good advice to his clients and copied me in. The one that caught my attention most was about trying to remember things.
Peter is a young guy with a creative mind and sharp intellect; you’d think he didn’t have any problems remembering things. But here is his key piece of advice.
“Don’t try to remember things. Remembering things takes up a lot of brain power. So, stop trying. I use a to-do list to make sure I won’t forget to do something. And if I get an idea I can’t forget, I write it down, so I don’t have to remember it.”
A Confessed List Maker
I’m a List Maker, I confess it! People used to joke about my long paper lists. Now I keep them electronically they don’t see them but they still exist.
Because they save me time and energy, I get more done and am much more effective.
It also helps you track the changes you make and therefore track the impact that changes produce in your business. It is part of my RATES strategy: the “T” that stands for Test & Measure all you do. In fact it simplifies all your testing, measuring and improving.
Peter goes on to say in his email that the hardest part of list making is to make it a habit .. it is so easy to slip back into old habits. But do this one simple thing and I’ll guarantee your marketing and business will improve.
Making lists is a trait of highly effective people ... the most successful people I know make lists. This way they keep their minds clear and are more creative and productive.
I’ve always said that marketing is much easier and less time consuming than many people think. This is perhaps one of the best tips you’ll ever get to improve your marketing.
