TV advertising, particularly, brand awareness advertising, drives online advertising by raising awareness of products. For example in the UK a lot of companies promote furniture including beds and sofas online over the Christmas period. These repetitive ads raise awareness but don't provide a lot of detailed information.
However look at the volume of online searches made on Google and it peaks for terms like sofa, sofa sale, DFS etc at this time. Usually this is within minutes of the ad being seen on TV.
So the morale of the story is to ensure you support TV advertising with a good website if you want to capitalise on the increased awareness and search traffic.
The same principle applies with radio advertising.
