Marketing with Music: The type of music you play affects your sales

True; the type of music you play in your sales area can affect your sales.
I wrote previously about how the tempo of the music you played can affect sales by upto 38% …. but how about the type of music? Does it have an effect on Buyer Psychology?
Well it seems that if has a dramatic effect. In 1998 Adrian North and colleagues from the University of Leicester experimented with playing music in a supermarket. The played French and German music on alternate days … apparently when French accordion music was played French wines outsold German wines by a factor of 5:1. When German oompah music was played the German wine outsold the French by 2:1.
There is no mention of the effect it had on New World Wines on either day!
