Why asking “Why” is a bad business strategy

From time to time the best laid plans go wrong.  It is a fact of life .. unavoidable … only when you do nothing at all can you prevent something going wrong.

It is important to know why things have gone wrong .. but … it is a poor strategy to ask your staff why things have gone wrong from the outset.

When you ask what has gone wrong people tend to focus on the negative, to blame circumstances or people.  Negative thoughts will not remedy the problem.

 

So start by asking things like "how" or "what".. things like "How can we remedy the sitaution?" ….. "What can we do to …?"  This encourages positive, creative thinking … you can come back to why when a positive vibe has been established.
